Dusty Wainscott -

End of Watch Wednesday, September 8, 2021

Investigator Dusty Wainscott collapsed and died after chasing and getting into a physical altercation with two suspects who fled on foot during a traffic stop near Park Place and McGee Street in Sherman. Investigator Wainscott had served with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office for 16 years. He had also served with the Van Alstyne Police Department and Pottsboro Police Department. He is survived by his wife and parents.

KC Robinson

KC Robinson was a graduate of the Texoma Regional Police Academy in 2013. He began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer at the Gainesville Police Department for over four years. At the time of KC’s death, due to a tragic automobile accident, he had promoted to a detective at the Celina Police Department, and he was the lead instructor for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, the department training coordinator, a lead for the Special Response Team, and creator of a peer support group for the department.

Vincent Castellanos

Vincent served his country in the United States Army and became an Army Ranger.  After leaving the military, he continued to serve his community as a patrol officer with the Sherman Police Department and a member of their Special Response Team until death due to illness.

Donald Clark Arnold -

End of Watch: 12-23-1969

Sergeant Donald Clark Arnold, who was killed in the line of duty on December 23, 1969. On that tragic night, Sergeant Arnold was ambushed as he interrupted a robbery in progress at a local service station. Sergeant Arnold, who was a husband and father, was 42 years of age and served with Sherman PD for 17 years.

Rickey Wheeler

Rickey served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  After leaving the military, he joined the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office where he began as a detention officer and in dispatch, then promoted to patrol officer, K-9 handler, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Public Information Officer, and held the rank of Captain over the Enforcement Bureau at the time of his death due to illness.

Sheriff Keith Gary

Sheriff Gary was elected as Sheriff in 1996 and served Grayson County for twenty years.  Prior to this, he served as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Texas and as a U.S. Probation Officer.  In 2012, Sheriff Gary received the Texas Peacemakers Award from the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. He also received the U.S. Marshal Service Director’s Special Achievement Award for outstanding efforts in the recruitment of women and minorities.  Sheriff Gary retired in 2016 after serving 48 years in law enforcement.

OHP Trooper Nicholas Glenn Dees - End of Watch Saturday, January 31, 2015

Trooper Nicholas Dees was struck and killed by a vehicle near mile marker 195 on I-40, east of Shawnee. He and another trooper were investigating a wreck involving a semi-truck on westbound I-40 at approximately 10:00 pm when a vehicle went around their patrol cars before striking both troopers. Trooper Dees died at the scene. Trooper Dees had served with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for approximately 18 months. He is survived by his wife and two children.

James Arvil Lamance

End of Watch: 12-23-2000

 Corporal Lamance was shot and killed while pursuing a suspected drunk driver.

Corporal Lamance and his brother, who was a reserve officer with the same agency, were on patrol when they spotted the suspect and attempted to pull him over. During the pursuit, the suspect led the officers into a field and stopped his vehicle approximately 100 yards away from the cruiser. The suspect then exited the vehicle and opened fire on the officers, striking Corporal Lamance. Corporal Lamance's brother was able to return fire but did not strike the suspect, who was arrested later in the night at his residence. The suspect was acquitted of the capital murder charged in April, 2002.

Corporal Lamance had been employed with the Whitewright Police Department for 3 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Chad Key

End of Watch: 4-20-2013

Deputy Sheriff Chad Key was struck and killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and Bethany Road shortly before 10:30 pm.

The driver who struck him failed to stop but was arrested a short distance away. The subject was a habitual drunk driver who was out on bond on a previous drunk driving arrest. The subject was convicted of felony murder and aggravated assault. He was subsequently sentenced to 141 years in prison but is eligible for parole in 30 years.

Deputy Key had served as a corrections officer with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office for 3-1/2 years. He had served as a patrol deputy for only two months. He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Jarid Taylor

End of Watch: 1-14-2020

Jarid Taylor served as a patrol deputy with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.  Prior to becoming a patrol deputy, he worked as a school resource officer for Silo, Ok public schools.  He was killed in an automobile crash while responding to an emergency call.

Michael Dee Pace

End of Watch: 12-29-1998

Sergeant Michael Pace was returning home in his patrol car at the end of his shift when a tractor-trailer pulled across the highway, blocking most of the lanes of traffic. Sergeant Pace swerved to avoid a collision but struck the rear portion of the trailer. Sergeant Pace was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Bryan County Sheriff's Office for three years.

Brian Conrad

Brian began his career with the Denison Police Department as a patrol officer and achieved the rank of Sergeant.  Sgt. Conrad served the city of Denison for over 20 years. He spent his entire career with Denison PD until his death due to illness.

Jeff Camp

Jeff was an officer with Denison PD until his death due to illness.  He began as a patrol officer, then promoted to Sergeant and Lieutenant.  Jeff also served as a supervisor to the SWAT and Dive team.
